What is Copyright?
A copyright is a legal protection given for the purposes of protecting a person's work which may exists in the form of either a literary work that includes computer programs, dramatic, artistic or musical works, cinematograph films, sound recordings and broadcasts.
Copyright protection is free and automatic as per Australian law. Therefore you are not required to apply for a Copyright in Australia and there is no system of registration.
What are the various kinds of Copyright Contracts?
There are two main kinds of copyright contracts which deal with different kinds of legal aspects concerning copyrights. They are:
(i) Copyright Assignment - This contract is used when the Copyright needs to be assigned to a third-party. By virtue of this contract, the Copyright will be completely transferred to a third-party either with or without consideration.
(ii) Copyright Licensing - This contract is used when the Copyright needs to be licensed to a third-party. The license which is to be given to third-party can be limited to a specific geographical area, for a specific duration and with or without consideration.
